BlackBerry Europe Maintenance Planned

July 24th, 2008 by BBAdmin

blackberry-maintenance

We received news today that Research In Motion is planning to perform some maintenance on the EU relay this weekend. During this time, both BIS and BES users will be unable to send and receive email or do any of the other things they all love doing with their BlackBerry handhelds (voice, SMS and media messaging aside of course).

The scheduled window for the work is this Saturday (26th July) between midnight and 06.00 (GMT) with a downtime of 2 hours.  Remember, even if you’re travelling in the US or Asia, if your BES is located in Europe, you will be offline while the RIM doctors do their thing.

Breaking News: Kickstart Hands on Review

July 24th, 2008 by mikeypants

blackberry-kickstart

Our pal Kevin over at CrackBerry has pulled off another impressive feat; he has managed to get his hands on a 8220 Kickstart! This leak is quite out of left field considering the last time we saw the device was a month ago tomorrow. But who really cares? The Bold is almost here for many of us so we need something else to look forward to spending our money on. (Even if it is a purely aimed at teenage girls consumers.) Read the rest of this entry »

Can’t you put that thing down for FIVE minutes?!

July 23rd, 2008 by juwaack68

I have a co-worker who is one of those types of people. You know the type. You’re sitting there in a meeting, discussing the next big project, and his BlackBerry rings. Not only does he answer it, but he starts chatting away. Sometimes he will leave the room, and sometimes he just turns around and continues talking (yes, thanks, that helps the rest of us so much). It wouldn’t be so bad if it was an urgent call, but he answers them all. That’s okay, though, we’ll just assign all the really nasty project tasks to him while he isn’t paying attention. He needs to learn some BlackBerry Etiquette.

BlackBerry Media Sync to Launch Today!

July 23rd, 2008 by Jibi

Assuming our BlackBerry Barometer is being accurate, we have received information that the BlackBerry Media Sync application, which allows you to synchronize your iTunes library with your BlackBerry handheld, will be available for public consumption at some point today (the 23rd).

Keep your eyes on www.blackberry.com/mediasync, which is where the application should be available for download. Perhaps.

Pictures of the Thunders Camera Interface, Media Player in Landscape

July 22nd, 2008 by mikeypants

blackberry-thunder-camera-interface-2

It looks like the people over at BlackBerrySYNC have a very good friend who works at RIM, because today they released more exclusive “shots” of the Thunder’s interface. Not quite the live pictures of the Thunder that we have shown you in the past, but what you’re looking is purportedly what you will see when taking a photo with the Thunder’s camera while holding the device upright. We also have horizontal pictures of the camera interface and music player. Read the rest of this entry »

Bold Release info for the UK and Australia

July 21st, 2008 by mikeypants

blackberry-bold-australia-uk-release

Good news to all of our friends in the UK and Australia; the Bold may be just a few weeks away. Representatives of UK carrier 3 have been quoted as saying the Bold, which will be the first BlackBerry device they will offer, will be released first by Vodafone “in the next two weeks.” When asked for comments, a Vodafone spokesperson simply said “we are hoping to launch the Bold before 1st November.”

Australia IT is reporting that RIM itself has confirmed a July 29 launch date for the Bold on 3, Optus, Telstra, and Vodafone. Despite this, 3 spokesperson Edwina Elliot has gone on the record saying “3 Mobile has no pricing and availability information available at the moment [for the Bold].”

Creating New Documents on the Standard Edition of Documents to Go

July 20th, 2008 by mikeypants

rim-blackberry-45-dataviz-documents-to-go

Among the great new features to come out of OS 4.5 now that BIS 2.5 is here has been the inclusion of the Standard Edition of DataViz’s Documents to Go enabling BlackBerry users to edit, save, and send World, Excel, and PowerPoint files on the go. But unfortunately the standard edition isn’t too much write home about. To get abilities the ability to do basic things such as run a spell checker, change fonts, edit the formatting in an more advanced way, and add hyper-links you need to upgrade to the Premium Edition for $69.99. But the most irritating omission from the standard edition is the ability to create new files. Thankfully there is a simple work around for this. Read the rest of this entry »
