Rogers Wireless Lowers Price on BlackBerry Data
June 21st, 2008 | by BlackBerry News |
Good news for some of us who live north of the 49th: Rogers Wireless has lowered their BlackBerry data prices to a somewhat acceptable level!
While the new plans in no way compete with the cheap and truly unlimited packages from rival Telus, you could argue that these new plans could be considered affordable unlimited data for the average BIS with $30 netting you 300 MB of data. And if you think that you will go over that 300 MB, the plans go all the way up to 6 GB for $100.

Looks like Rogers has a Bold plan to make BlackBerry users of us all with these new prices.
And for all of you BES users, you didn’t think Rogers was going to leave you out did you?

Shamefully nowhere near as generous as the BIS plans, Rogers is greedily asking $100 for 1 GB of BES data. This is even more shameful when you consider that the plan just below it is 25 MB for $60.

See, this surprises me quite a bit that they did’t try to match Telus. Even Bell saw the light a few weeks ago by going with 30$unlim. Do you think they’ll ever add an affordable unlimited plan someday? My bet is NO, aka why I switched to Bell

They know they have a leading edge on the GSM markets, now that another spectrum has been opened up and sold in Canada, it opens the real possibility of some competition for Rogers. The addition of bell switching to GSM in 2009 will put more much needed competition in that market.
Lets hope things improve soon.

In March I paid Rogers $500 in cancellation fees to join Telus with their unlimited plans. Looking at the new pricing strategy from Rogers, I am glad that I did.
In the past I have blown through 300 MB in a single day!

I cancelled Rogers and turn to Bell for $30 unlimited data . That’s really a right decision.
