Denying reports by the Boy Genius of the AT&T Bold being delayed until at least August, Erik van Drunen, pubic relations manager for Research in Motion, said on Thursday that the Bold will be available from AT&T in August and dismissed any reports to the contrary as “rumours from bloggers… We didn’t say anything about ‘July’ or ‘August.’ It will become available in August. So we’re still on track for [...] this summer.”

Speaking specifically to the reported over-heating issue, van Drunen said that he was not aware of any such issues. “I don’t know where that’s coming from at all, but it’s probably from somewhere in the blogosphere.”

It should be noted that no one at RIM has ever given a firm window for the release of the Bold other than it would start selling this summer which would allow for the confusion that we are currently experiencing.

Jim Balsille, co-CEO of RIM, had this to say about the Bold during the conference call annoucing the earnings for Q1:

“As we disclosed in May, the BlackBerry Bold will be available from carriers around the world beginning this summer, with specific launch dates varying by carrier. We’ve already made the Bold available to carriers for testing. It is performing well and meeting all of RIM’s stringent requirements for bringing the product to market in partnership with our carrier partners.”

With this information in mind, it’s safe to say that the Bold will be available from AT&T by August with the chances of a July launch extremely thin. As for other carriers such as Rogers, the possibility of a July release is still very strong indeed.
