BIS 2.5 Arrives in the Americas with HTML E-mail and More
June 29th, 2008 | by mikeypants |
Early this morning, RIM completed its update to BIS 2.5 in the Americas, enabling a slew of new features for those of the BlackBerry faithful running OS 4.5 and above. The most noteworthy update is support for HTML e-mail, but there are some other long overdue great features as well.
Among the other updates are the abilities to:
- Ability to download and save .doc, .ppt, .xls, .wpd, .txt, .html, .pdf, .zip attatchments
- Push e-mail for AOL, Hotmail, and MSN accounts
- Save audio attachments
- Save video attachments
- Update OTA
While these updates should be automatically forwarded to your device, it’s probably a good idea to resend your service books just in case.
Complete detailed instructions on adding HTML email to your BlackBerry are posted here at BlackBerryForums.
It should be noted that OS 4.5, which is required for most of these new features, is currently available on a select number of BlackBerry devices, with the full line-up slated to receive the update by September. And for everyone who is running a leaked OS 4.5 beta on their CDMA devices, you will be pleased to know that you will be able to receive your e-mails in HTML, as well.

Has this September been confirmed by RIM and/or carriers?
I personally have been using some of these new BIS capabilities for a week now, was migrated last week, and do love them… as I am sure many of the NA users will.
P.S. “Get Images” can be hit and miss occasionally.
