BlackBerry Javelin now the… WTF?!

Research In Motion certainly has the pre-launch world confused with these next few device launches. First, we have the confusion around the BlackBerry KickStart and BlackBerry Seawolf devices. Next, we have the confusion around the BlackBerry Javelin. Is it a 9000-series device or an 8000-series device? Is it an 8301 or is it a 9300? Or is it an 8900?

The BlackBerry Javelin - the much anticipated successor to the BlackBerry Curve - was rumored by BlackBerryCool.com to possibly be the BlackBerry 8900, which appears to be a 2.5G device running OS 4.6.1 with a screen resolution of 480 x 380 pixels. Seems like a Javelin, right?

While most of you may not care about this sort of information and just want the device in your hands, this marks the first time that I’ve ever witnessed a BlackBerry device pre-launch with three different official RIM sources reporting three different model numbers for the same device… then again, perhaps this is intended to confuse the growing eyes that are watching the Canadian company even more closely than ever before?

  • I'm still sticking with the fact it's gonna a 93XX Series device. All the rumblings I hear lead towards that and my "rumblers" have never failed me before so..stick with what has been tried and true.

Although I have a self conflict with going against what Jibi says any time, he's tried and true as well lol!! :)
  • @Bla1ze, I've got 3 different sources (all official from RIM) with 3 different results. It's hilarious and confusing ...I haven't seen anything like this before with a device.

But if I had to make a guess... :)
  • In the spirit of walking down memory lane, here are the past device model changes that I can find:

    BlackBerry 7135 (became the 7130e)
    BlackBerry 7285 (became the 7290)
    BlackBerry 8803 (became the 8830)
    BlackBerry 7000 (became the 7100)

There are a couple more, but it does show that RIM has a past with changing model numbers. I think the exposure is a bit higher these days, which is why we have three different model numbers for a single device.
  • Ya, they are just trying to trick all the bloggers and writers out there...their idea is to confuse the hell out of us and then we'll just forget what we were talking about anyways..very dirty RIM...very dirty lmao!! :P
