EXCLUSIVE: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.7 with Media Sync

bdm47-02

It seems the proverbial apple loves finding my lap, or perhaps it’s my head. Regardless of the bloody apple, I’ve covered the first looks for BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.3, BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager, and BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.5, which has just been officially released by RIM.

Heck, if I weren’t taking a sabbatical from blogging, I would have covered BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.6.

But instead, skip one release and now let’s have a look at BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.7. From the surface, not much has changed since the previous builds. Perhaps this is being packaged for the BlackBerry Thunder? Perhaps the Thunder’s launch will happen sooner than expected? Hmm… the hampster wheels are spinning.

  • All these releases make NO sense to me, 4.3 desktop...4.5 desktop...4.6 and now 4.7..their is no way all these devices could require a different desktop manager for each one...I mean it's possible...but why?

From using them all each one has had it's "bugs" but I'm unable to confirm if any of the releases I had were final versions, but I think with so many being released it's safe to say I doubt ANY of them were final.

I downloaded 4.5 a couple weeks ago and haven't been able to get it to work yet correctly.
As soon as I plug my 8100 in, it goes into a permanent loop looking for updates for the phone.
Have to cntrl-alt-del to stop and exit the program......

Can anyone tell me what organizer applications are supported by Desktop Manager 4.6? I got this with a Blackberry Bold and discovered that it does not support my Lotus Organizer 6.1. What DOES it support? (Other than Microsoft Outlook, of course)

Any luck with your issues? I had 4.3 and was getting dupes on my Blackberry so I was told to upgrade to 4.7 and now I can't get anything to sync.
  • BlackBerry 8820
I have BlackBerry 8820. Today I have updated my Desktop Manager to 4.7 through automatic update. What a f...ing experience. It is asking for PIN and Password. Note that there is no pin assigned to my device at all. When I just put the password, OK button is not enabled to go forward. Against PIN option there is a filed with pull down. It has text 'Select a device...' in it. When I press the pull down, nothing happens. It doesn't allow to type me either.

Then I check help of Desktop Manager which says:

Connect your device to your computer using a USB connection
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Connect the large end of the USB cable to a USB port on your computer.
Connect the small end of the USB cable to the USB port on the side of your BlackBerry® device.
    Open the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager.
    Click Options.
    Click Connection options.
In the Connections drop-down list, click your USB connection.
    Click OK.

Surprisingly when I click, there is no option of 'Connection options' to select :(
