BlackBerryForums.com Gives Back to the Community

teamwork

Over the past two months, the people over at BlackBerryForums, the sister site of BlackBerryNews, have been rallying to raise funds to help out two very special members of the online BlackBerry community who have had faced hardships of a differing nature.

Audit’s House

On the 8th of June, a storm ripped through Michigan damaging the house belonging to John, known to BlackBerryForums as Audit and throughout the BlackBerry community as the upkeeper of DataOutages.com. With windows blown out and water rushing in, the house and John’s belongings didn’t fair too well. To make matters worse, John is facing health problems right now making it hard to him to deal with family, work, the house, and DataOutages.

Thankfully, a BlackBerryForums moderator, JSanders, started a thread calling on people to donate to help out the great man who has given so much to our community. Following this example ezrunner and troydbrown were inspired to create a challenge in which ezrunnerwould not post for 14 days if $250 was raised for John. (Prizes were graciously donated by both ezrunner and Zerog64 to be given at random to two donors.)

Not keen to see ezrunner go, Horizon Wireless started a campaign to save ezrunner from being banned which netted $220. This was followed by LunkHead, who created an auction for his BlackBerryForums edition Fortte case which brought in $100 from hnsimpson.

All of the support has helped raise over $3,000 for John. If you would like to help out John (if not for his house but for the invaluable service that DataOutages provides) and have even a dollar to spare, please click the PayPal button at the bottom of DataOutages or send a donation directly to paypalus@dataoutages.com

Dawg’s BlackBerry

Dawg had a terrible day when his BlackBerry 8130 fell off the hood of his Jeep at 60 miles per hour and was promptly run over by 10 cars (“YAY!” to Atlanta traffic). But in the true spirit of BlackBerryForums, Cory Scheuer set up a donation drive to get the “BlackBerry God” a new phone (please note that Dawg has the most posts on the forum for a non-BBF staff member).

But after enough money was raised for the phone, people kept on giving. This was largely due to Horizon Wireless donating money to the cause AND offering to match the outstanding funds dollar for dollar. These additional funds are to be sent to a charity of Dawg’s choice, which will aiding in the curing of cancer!

BlackBerryNews and BlackBerryForums would like to thank everyone who was involved and contributed to these efforts. Outstanding job, people!

The recent upgrade that removed the Blackberry email web page from the Rogers web site has created a problem for me.

I use my BB to get email “instantly” when I am away from my computer or my laptop is not connected to the Internet. Whenever I was flying for three hours or more I would turn off my BB in the air and upon arrival, I would download my email to my laptop, delete the email from the Rogers BB email page and then turn on my BB once again.

In other words I had control of which messages were sent to my BB and which were not.

On my last trip to Europe, I realized I could not do this anymore - there is no way to delete messages from the RIM server that has picked up my email from my email addresses during my flight. So I ended up being charged $259 for the “privilege” of downloading email that I had already secured on my laptop and did not need.

When I spoke about this with Rogers, they denied any responsibility and told me I had to take the matter up with RIM. But RIM claim that they have no control over Robers network or the billing system so they too, absolve themselves of this drop in service.

I am rather “p”ed off about this and feel like someone has robbed me.

Anyone got any solutions to this problem.
