Breaking News: Thunder Advertising Campaign in September, Bold to be Pushed Back Again?

According to the Boy Genius, come this September, Research In Motion is set to make a lot of commotion in the United States with an advertising blitz to promote their touch-screen Thunder device. And for those of you who are looking to get their hands on the device that has not only CMDA/EV-DO capabilities but also UMTS/HSPA, you’ll unfortunately have to wait until mid-October/early November for the Verizon exclusive release. No word yet on the Vodafone release date.

It is highly suspected that, while this device will have the ability to operate on the high-speed GSM-evolved networks, the additional hybrid functionality will be disabled for domestic use (or anywhere Verizon has a roaming agreement) and only usable internationally where Vodafone has a footprint or roaming agreement in place.

In other release news, the Boy Genius is also reporting another delay for the Bold due to an issue with staying connected when switching to a roaming network. It could mean that everyone waiting patiently for an AT&T Bold by August might have to wait a little longer. This, of course, falls perfectly in line with what we reported a few days before. This could also mean that other carriers, such as T-Mobile Germany and Rogers, may either be delayed with their launches or are caught releasing an unstable device.

It is also being reported that RIM is placing a higher priority on the Thunder than they are on the Bold and other devices, which may explain the lack of information for the KickStart and the delays on the Bold.

This is becoming a bit of a joke … losing sales every day now … even my MD has put in an order for an iPhone

How is it a joke? Absolutely NO release date has been announced by ANYONE. Everything is from internal leaked sources.

“Absolutely NO release date has been announced by ANYONE”

Fair comment. I guess sites like this don’t help with rumours.

But the actual device has been displayed prominently on their homepage for some time now, RIM puts out press-releases about it in every online magazine and news site that we print it.

I just think that given the flourishing state of the iPhone, RIM could do well to at least tell their market audience when it is coming.

My o2 business account manager told me August for Bold - and I just would have thought that would have been concrete by now.

    It better be good :)
