BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 SP6 Released, PDF Vulnerability Fixed

Research In Motion, likely under pressure due to a recent security vulnerability, has decided to release BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 Service Pack 6 a few weeks ahead of schedule. In addition to addressing the PDF Vulnerability Flaw in the BlackBerry Attachment Service, this particular service pack will also deliver official support for HTML email rendering to corporate-managed devices running OS 4.5. The latter part of that news just isn’t as exciting as it was last November or January or even February.

Regardless, for those of us who have taken measures to prevent PDF attachments within the last week, this is certainly a breath of fresh air that should help address the concerns of those users complaining about the inability to open PDF attachments.

The following downloads are new to BlackBerry.com as of tonight:

- BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 SP6 Upgrade
- BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 SP6 Full (w/ TSupport login)
- BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 SP5 MR1
- BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 SP5 QF1 (PDF Fix)
- BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 SP4 QF1 (PDF Fix)
- BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 SP3 QF1 (PDF Fix)

The patch for BES 4.1 SP5 does not require the MR1 patch, although it is recommended.
The patch for BES 4.1 SP4 requires MR6 to be installed.
The patch for BES 4.1 SP3 requires HF2 to be installed.

Happy Patchin’

I don’t see anything in the SP6 release notes indicating that the PDF vulnerability is fixed.

    Am i missing something?

    Read the KB article:

    Resolution
Upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 6 (4.1.6).

Research In Motion (RIM) has also issued an interim security software update that resolves this vulnerability. Visit http://www.blackberry.com/go/serverdownloads to obtain the interim security software update for affected release versions earlier than BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.6.

I am running 4.1.2 right now. Do I have to upgrade to SP3, SP4, and then SP5 before installing SP6, or can I just go straight to SP6 and get all the benifits of SP3-5?
    Thanks
    -Kris

BES Service Packs are inclusive. You can install SP6 directly from SP2; no other patches needed.

    Am I missing something?

All this talk about HTML email and I can’t see anything different.

    Anything I should look for?

For HTML email to work, you need 4.5 on the device. No US carrier has released it, but several European carriers have for a variety of devices.

If you reply to HTML Formated text, the Format will say the same, vs with older editions it would switch to Plain Text

Also it will keep the original message colors and fonts.

    Hi

We are running BES 4.1.5, our devices are on mainly 4.2

If I reply to an HTML email, then the reply is in HTML. So I am not sure what this SP6 will do to help?

    Any help?
