Rogers Bold Delayed Again?

rogersdelay
rogersdelay

According to a source on our BlackBerryNews.com Tip Hotline, it appears the Saga of the Bold Delay is still in full swing in North America. Our source states that the delay is due to “software issues” and delivery of all Rogers BlackBerry Bold units were delayed until at least August 28th. With all of the recent delivery of point of purchase display materials to Rogers stores, demo units being available for order, training sessions for employees, you’d have to question the validity of the delay.

However, I personally know that in the Research In Motion’s code ninjas went from software version 4.6.0.112, which was released internally on August 1st, to 4.6.0.126 just 10 days later. That is quite a huge jump in revisions, especially considering most people I spoke to with a Bold said that the 4.6.0.112 version was ”not up to par” and “still quite buggy”. RIM was at version 4.6.0.60 just two months ago (and I believe in the neighborhood of .20 to .40 at WES just three months ago).

Definitely food for thought for those hoping to grab a Bold next week from your local Rogers stores. We’re hoping you’re successful, although you may want to call your local store and see if they are still on track for next Tuesday. Leave some feedback with their answers.

With that $399 price tag, and ensuing comments on other blogs, I'm guessing that a large segment of people have just stopped caring about the Bold.

I have to agree with Lewis here. RIM can call this a massive marketing FAIL. Even if the info that is getting out to the community isn't by design, they need to do a far better job than this. At this rate we are going to see Project Mojave from RIM.

heh 399 yeah I aint buying it now~

As if the delays weren't enough, at that price, they've pretty much forced me to buy an iPhart.

On the build numbers, don't read anything into the increasing values. Most good software development groups run daily builds, as I believe is the case here.

Wasn't it just reported last week (Boy Genius) that RIM was focusing more development efforts on Thunder than on Bold? If that's truly the case, not surprised there would be more Bold delays.
  • Rogers could have made a massive impact in their services with the Bold, but if the $399.99 proce tag stays..it's only gonna be aminimal impact to sales, half the people I know that were waiting for device, changed their minds rather quickly after seeing that big fat $399.99 tag associated to it...Way too go Rogers..screwing your customers again and again..as for the delays, if that price tag stays, I really don't care when it come sout now...gonna be another 6 mnths before I'm able to grab it anyways, unless I wanna argue to no end with the retention team at Rogers.
  • I dunno. My local Rogers store has information out. No dummy phones on display yet, but they DO have them behind the counter. If you ask for it, they'll let you see it.

I hope it doesn't get delayed AGAIN. This is ridiculous.

Hopefully AT&T sees the pricing flop Rogers has going on, and takes a long hard look at their pricing.
  • Bla1ze, I'd be curious to see the corporate versus consumer consumption of BlackBerry devices for Rogers over the last few years. It was reported by someone on CB yesterday that there was a $299 price tag attached to the Bold for standard corporate customers, which is a little more appealing. For larger corporations, I wouldn't imagine the price tag would be more than $99-129, if that, to be honest. I don't see the price tag having a huge hit on corporations, although it could have a rather good hit on the online community and consumer market... but if that's not where the money or attention is for Rogers (or most other carriers dealing BlackBerry service), then does it really matter?

So my phone is on my dads small business plan (3 phoens on it) does it get corporate pricing?

Just left our AT&T store and have a contest for store employees that a Bold will be given out Setp 20th. They have not been told when they will get the Bold or the Training

This just in: After this news, hundreds of thousands of would-be BlackBerry Bold customers have defected to other smartphones due to the most absurd series of delays in wireless device history. When confronted with the unpopular fact that there in fact have not been any "official" delays to date, one potential customer retorted: "Well, the perception of delay after delay is just as powerful as real delays. I'm tired of waiting for vaporware. I've got money burning a hole in my pocket!"

This is getting extremely annoying. My usual hate and animosity towards Rogers, is now starting to project itself towards RIM, a company that I have loved up untill now.

If someone from either of these companies read these boards :

JUST ANNOUNCE THE PRICE AND LAUNCH DATE!!!

Because of your doddling, you just lost a loyal customer....im going to replace my broken pearl with an iphone!
  • Andrew
Well I am glad my 1 year term isn't up until November of this year (that's when I can upgrade my hardware), now I can wait and finally get a phone that isn't going to be buggy! :)

I got my bold on Friday (with the UK network Orange). Orange currently sucks! Hope it gets better. The bold though, is quite beautiful. I'm in love. :)
