Citigroup scales back on BlackBerry use

Citigroup announced various cutbacks in their operations yesterday, including use of color copiers, limitations on meetings, and BlackBerry usage.

“We will be conducting a review of our Blackberry usage,” Citigroup said. “In the interim, all new Blackberries will require pre-approval.”

Compared to other banking concerns, that is not so harsh.

Deutsche Bank AG has limited business meal expenses to $92 per person, and Merrill Lynch has placed restrictions on use of the private jet.

    I am not surprised by this at all. This is the typical binge and purge that happens at any large enterprise.

    My employeer went thru the same thing, only in reverse. At first you could only get a BlackBerry if it was approved by the CFO. That requirement was removed and the responsibility fell to the individual managers to use their budget as they say fit. I fully expect that there will be some backlash in the future and some people will lose their BlackBerry.
  • Great post again mate. I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there. It doesn’t have to be hard yet mose people fail to realize the basics.
