Rogers to Introduce Comeptitive BES Plans on 1 October

It’s nice when carriers that have been screwing you for years start to give you a break, isn’t it? Well Canada’s Rogers Wireless is going to start doing just that to all of their BES customers by offering them some very un-Rogers like plans starting 1 October.

Standard Data Packages

The new standard BES plans will be available at the following price points:

rogers-bes-2
rogers-bes-2

There isn’t much to say about the above price plans other than they are a rather large improvement over the current plans of $40/7MB, $45/300MB, and $100/1GB.

Flex Rate Packages

Previously only available to BIS users, Rogers will offer Flex Rate plans to all BES users.

According to Rogers, BES Flex Rates “automatically adjusts your Monthly Service Fee (MSF) based on your actual data usage. You will start each month at Tier 1. If your monthly usage exceeds 500MB, then you will move up automatically to Tier 2.” And so this continues on until you max out at Tier 5 and its 5GB of data.”

These plans are all fine and well, but if you are a Canadian data user what you are about to read may very will put you into a shock-induced coma.

Data Spending Capped at $100

The most that a Rogers BES user will ever spend under these new terms is $100, thanks to a new price-cap system (also offered on BIS plans) that will ensure “the maximum monthly charge for domestic mobile internet usage on the Rogers network is $100, including the data MSF and any additional data overage charges.”

Well Rogers BES users, what say you?

Hmmm, interesting, here in ukraine, where we've just got introduced to blackberry as a being, we have fixed(and only) data plans for bis and bes. It's 40$ unlimited for bis and 50$ unlimited per device on bes. It differs a lot from how it works in canada.

I'm a BIS user in Italy, we pay about 10Euro a month per 400/500MB but I never heard anyone going over that amount of traffic with the apn blackberry.net - is anything I dont get?

Regarding the $100 cap, that applies to OVERAGE charges, not combined charges. so on a $45 plan, your MAX charge for data would be 145, 45 for the plan, and a max of 100 overage.

So I assume that its no problem to have any of these new plans and tether to a laptop, correct? I have the $45/300mb BES plan right now and tether once in a while. It will be nice to have 1GB or a flex plan and not have to worry too much about overages anymore when I do tether.

Also, anyone have any idea if these plans lock you into a new 3yr contract, similar to the way the $30/6GB iPhone/BB BIS plans do? Or is anyone free to change to these new BES plans w/o having to recommit?
