We interrupt the Storm love fest to bring you news on the nearly forgotten Bold. MobileTechAddicts.Com is reporting that Orange UK has halted sales of the BlackBerry Bold based on quality issues. They state they received a tip and this internal document.

“Following reports of software issues with the BlackBerry Bold handset across a variety of mobile operators, Orange has decided to act in the interest of its customers by suspending shipments of the device in the UK. We are currently awaiting feed back from RIM as to when an industry wide fix for these issues will be in place, and expect this suspension to be an interim measure. We apologise for any inconvenience this issue may cause you .”next steps BlackBerry / RIM are doing everything they can to resolve this issue and will be completing full testing and validation to ensure future handsets do not have any quality issues.  This may take a couple of weeks so it’s up to us to do what’s best for our customers.”

Anyone heard form AT&T?

Ouch! Another setback… Not ready for prime time… and what is At&t going to do now? Another delay? Rogers and pacific rim, Mexico, S. America. Still no Bold in USA??

As I’ve noted, I’ve switched to iPhone precisely because of the problems with the delay of the Bold. As an ex-BlackBerry user, I have refrained form RIM-bashing.

But I must make a new exception, which has nothing to do with the new devices but with BlackBerry’s “trade-up” program, designed to foster customer loyalty. It, too, is now in trouble.

Why is that? RIM will let you trade in a brand-new Curve for all kinds of older models and even the Bold, but not the Storm, Javelin or even lesser PearlFlip.

The problem is that delays with the Bold keep people from trading in their curves, forcing them to buy the other new models in lieu of the Bold. Bad, RIM, bad. Can’t wait to see how RIM handles the inevitable botch-ups with the Storm.

THESE ARE TRANSITIONAL MODELS, FOLKS. THE TRUE “SUPER-BLACKBERRY” IS COMING LATE NEXT YEAR —— LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE COME LAST SUMMER. MEANWHILE, RIM IS BETA-TESTING FEATURES ON INFERIOR DEVICES AND MAKING ITS CUSTOMERS PAY FOR THEM IN A WAY APPLE NEVER DID.

Are there two types of Blackberry Bolds around. In the UK for example I have noticed that in the top right hand corner the LED on earlier models has a clear window. On later builds this has been changed to black which makes for a nicer appearance and finish. This later model seems to be of a far superior build and seems to be giving fewer problems.
