EXCLUSIVE: Safe Mode Sneaks Into The BlackBerry Bold OS

It appears we do not have to wait for the Javelin to enjoy safe mode. Did RIM think they could sneak this into a release of the Bold OS and have it go unnoticed? This is a great addition as it will stop a third party application form causing an error on your BlackBerry and forcing you to reinstall the OS.

We originally reported back in June that this technology was to be included in the upcoming BlackBerry Javelin 8900. It is great to see this update has worked its way into the Bold.

Safe Mode has been confirmed in OS 4.6.0.162 but I understand the required COD file has existed in previous releases.

Have you tried safe mode? Post your experience with it below.

What exactly are you able to do in safe mode? Remove erratic applications?
  • Troy D. Brown
@Brandon correct it just stops 3rd party apps from loading. You can then delete the problem application.

Good find. This is going to be a big help when troubleshooting apps, especially for devs. No more wiping a phone to get rid of one bad app.

I tried this and can't seem to get it to work. Is the escape button the "back arrow" button to the right of the trackball? Because thats the one I was trying.

I tried it too and does not work for me. I downloaded the 162 from RIMs website for Rogers. May be i am doing something wrong, would appreicate if whoever has been successful posts with their experience and what they did.

My Bold screen went white yesterday, a clock appeared and then this option appeared - so it put itself into Safe Mode. Should I stay in Safe Mode all the time? If not how do I get out of Safe Mode? thanks, m
