New York City BlackBerry Storm Hunt & A Hint At The Retail Price

vzwstorm
vzwstorm

It looks as though a Storm is on the horizon. This evening Verizon updated it’s BlackBerry Storm page, and it’s pretty cool but surely you don’t think that’s the reason for this story? Of course not. There are “BlackBerry Storms” hidden Manhattan.

The NYC Storm hunt begins on November 6th when you can get the map online.Click the map to zoom in and find a Storm close to you. Once at the location, a keyword will be revealed that allows you to enter for a chance to win via an SMS message or online entry. The more location codes you find the more chances you have to win.

There will be 5 grand prize winners receiving a BlackBerry Storm and a $50 Verizon Wireless gift card. First Prize winners will receive a $100 Verizon Wireless gift card. Also be the first to visit 5 Storm locations and submit the five keywords to win a $100 Verizon gift card. And finally visit 10 Storm locations for a chance to win tickets to PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive Issue Celebration Party or Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year 2008 Awards Celebration.

Verizon is sure trying to get the buzz going about the Storm and the Storm Hunt sounds like a great way to do so. Head on over to the Storm page and check it out.

And for those who visited the site and didn’t read the “fine print” and both versions of the ” fine print. Verizon lists two different retail prices for the BlackBerry Storm.

In Disclosure #1 it is listed as being $249 (My guess that would be a contract price.)

Without tips, no blog would exist unless of course you just wanted to ramble on about useless, nothingness.

Wish I live in NYC as well, i'd be on the hunt for sure.

A little pricey for no 3G or wifi
  • Jason Mark
The Storm does work on 3G. EVDO Rev A is a 3G technology and both versions of the Storm also runo on HSPA. This is a 3G monster!
  • pb
well that clears that up, currently a AT&T customer, did not know thanks.
  • bc
i thought verizon is getting the 9530 not the gsm 9500?
  • Jason Mark
    Verizon will carry the 9530.
  • Troy D. Brown
To clear things up a bit we should state that the 9500 and 9530 are for the most part the same device. The 9530 from Verizon has a SIM card slot and a GSM radio, it also uses the 2100Mhz 3G spectrum.

We will not know exactly what Verizon has locked down until release.

Keep in mind also in North America the Storm will not operate on GSM 3G, EDGE only. CDMA is the only option for 3G in North America.
  • awc9
i guess the cradle dock wont be included.
  • Verizons Storm will be unlocked from the get go. You could go to VZW on launch day buy it at retail and pop in your T-Mo or ATT card and it would work.

The North American 3G version should be released soon after the CDMA variant.
