RIM has made available its web-based upgrade service for the Storm 9500. We have had reports that even though this is the shipping release of the BlackBerry Storm OS doing a fresh installed has solved many issues and improved performance.

Using Internet Explorer, take your PC browser to:  http://worldwide.blackberry.com/update/blackberrystorm.jsp

After you reinstall this OS let us know how it is working for you.

So I'm screwed if I have a Mac?

This is inexcusable. I don't even know anyone with a windows machine that I could get the update from. Yes, I know I can install windows on my Mac. Thanks but no thanks. Would you put plastic seats in BMW? didn't think so.

I fully agree. The fact that RIM still doesn't have Desktop Manager for Mac is absolutely absurd. It's already hurting a lot of their users, and it's really going to end up hurting their profits, more and more, the way things are going. (No, PocketMac is not an acceptable substitute.)

And I read on BGR's review that PocketMac doesn't recognize the Storm. Well done. Oh, and even if I had a windows machine, I can't use Firefox? How lazy our the RIM web developers that they can't even build a site that's accessible from multiple browsers.

Too bad AT&T sucks so bad, or I would have had an iPhone by now. Glad to know RIM is welcoming me to the Blackberry community with a door slam. I'm still excited to get my Storm, lags and all, but sure wish I didn't have to shell out more $$ for Missing Sync just to sync my address book.

Find a PC. Rim chose to support the only real computer.

Sort of says it all don't ya think.

wow you Mac freaks, why don't you go get your darn iPhone and your triple non-cafe mocha or whatever that fruity drink you guys get. A great thing happened to me the other day, my roommate has a Mac and raves about how much better it is, and I have just stayed quiet. Well he needed to do a couple things in Excel and he was havin the hardest time figuring out how to do, and low and behold he could only do it on the wonderfully customizable PC.

First, lemme apologize for RIM's ineptitude in excluding Mac computers. But in their defense the update was most likely rolled out at the last minute and there are more Winblow users than Mac (I dual boot linux and windows myself for times like this).

Now, I bought ordered a storm online and it was SLOW AS F***. But a fresh install cleaned it right back up. Still not as smooth as I had hoped, but definitely do not feel so ripped off. I believe there are possible memory leak problems (sorta like what happens with windows when left on for long periods). The install took around 15-20 min. I fear I may have to replicate this every so often, but then again my pearl was horrendous with memory problems as well.

I did the upgrade two ways. One was just reinstalling the core apps, which didn't do much. What did work was deleting all data and applications. REMEMBER TO BACKUP FIRST.

When the application loader starts, click on settings under "device backup and restore options". Check all 3 boxes. You will get a warning about having to reactivate the device, but I did not have to since it restored my backup.

Hopefully RIM will solve these issues in future software patches.

i think u can do the update over the phone. dont have to use the computer.

how bout the easy solution install ie7 on your mac
  • Your analogy is wrong. If you are comparing a BMW to a Mac, then the question is would you put leather seats in your defaultly equipped plastic seated BMW? Hell yes!

All I have to say about this threat is 3 words....lol. First of all let me say I got my first mac in 1988 the mac classic se-2 I think it was. I switched to a REAL computer after win 95 wad introduced. For one reason.....NOTHING is compatible with a mac....most geeks I know use windows for a reason. And why use a mac when u can get the same stability for free on an x86 plat form with linux? If ur so worried about sync'in ur bb go to eBay and buy an old PC for 20 bucks for ur bb...but q mac user could probably never get a 20 dollar pc to boot because god forbid u had to set a jumper or flash the bios or install a piece of hardware....go play with ur macs u little nerds...when ur ready to graduate to geek get a PC

Yo I apologize for my typos above...I'm posting this with my bb storm......I really can spell lol...
  • Joey Sanders
So you can spell, but what about that anger issue?

I'm upset about the lack of Mac support, but I'll live. I love my Storm. Oh, and find me a PC that works half as good with audio editing software as my Mac and I'll switch back in a heartbeat.
