Enough Storms for Tomorrow’s Launch Day?

long-line-vzw-storm.jpg

Some are specluating there may not be enough Storms to go ’round tomorrow on Verizon Wireless’ launch of the long-awaited 9530 touch screen device.

ChannelWeb is reporting “The tipsters said a security flaw was found in the operating system and the devices had to be re-flashed, delaying shipments to stores and possibly resulting in a shortage of devices.”

“One Verizon store that was promised 100 BlackBerry Storms for tomorrow’s long-awaited launch will only get 20 devices today, 40 for Friday, 40 for Saturday and so on. Additionally, the stock is being staggered instead of being sent in large quantities. ”

Or it can possibly be just a marketing strat. to get a line formed outside tomorrow at 7 so they sell as much as they can. How bout that?

This is 100% completely and totally Verizon's fault.

My local corporate store ordered hundreds, got a total of 20 to sell tomorrow. Verizon = FAIL

Gee I hope not, well I am on two list at two different locations one is best buy the other a verizon store. And I plan on driving by a 3rd location on my way to work, if there is not much of a line I was planning on stopping in. I live in a fairly small town, so hopefully the lines will not be too long, or one of the places will call me.

The Storm is a complete disaster, a misfire in its basic conception, let alone execution.

It's a complete disaster because fails in its most basic aim: to offer consumers a better way to type and input text on a touchscreen than the iPhone or other similar devices.

But as the reviews pouring in point out in disturbing detail, anybody who actually has used the thing from more than a couple of hours quickly discovers that typing is a drag on the Storm, and so is the maddening, lagging user interface after two days.

Consequently, the Storm will fail to draw any of us away from our superior physical keyboards on the Bold, Curve, etc. and fail to siphon off iPhone customers.

The news for RIM couldn't be worse.

But don't take my word for it. Try the Storm for yourself. I did, awhile ago, and promptly dumped my RIM stock while it was still at $138.

If you're willing to part with your Bold, Curve or even PearlFlip and make the WiFi-less Storm your one-and-only BlackBerry device, and you stick with it for more than two weeks, I'll gladly listen to your rhapsodies about how easy it was for you to forget everything you ever loved about typing on a BlackBerry so you could retrain yourself on the Big Button.

My neighborhood store had 10 today and sold them. Not supposed to. None for tomorrow. They will be taking orders and trying to get a shipment in as early as Saturday, but most likekly Wednesday. Issue is RIM. Last minute securtity patch delayed the bulk shipments, so VZW had to ship them out in mini packs as the software is loaded. To this moment, they are still testing the devices. Store technician had to do a 2 hour load for testing and give feedback to VZW. Asked me if I saw any error codes pop up. None that I saw, but the click didn't always execute on the program icon...happened three times in a span of 20 minutes. Looks to be a software issue that they can fix. Browser wasn't on the device either, which could be the root cause of the problem regarding the security issue.

After playing with it, I'm getting one. Will take time to adjust to the keyboard and typing, and may not fly as fast as I do now on my Pearl, but its certainly a move forward. With a couple of patches, it'll be fine. And the audio and video rocks! Best I've ever seen on such a small device.

I understand the security patch, etc. But come on. Delay the launch by a couple of days so that you don't have disappointed people walking out of stores empty handed!
