Orange May Pull BlackBerry Bold

The Telegraph.co.uk is reporting that, the Euopean carrier, Orange is considering pulling the BlackBerry Bold from their lineup of available devices. The decision is being based on reported “ongoing technical problems” that include “reported unexplained crashes, poor reception and irregular dropping of calls”.

It would mark the second time, since the October launch, that Orange has halted the sale of the Bold. Per the Telegraph.co.uk report, RIM and Orange have issued a joint statement, stating simply that “The BlackBerry Bold 9000 smartphone is available to Orange customers both in-store and online via its website.”

With the less than stellar reviews of the Storm, and the news of Bold issues continuing, we would hope things improve in the quality control department.

Are you experiencing issues with your Bold? Tell us about them in the comments section.

Hmmm... I have a Bold from t-mobile UK, and haven't had any problems with it so far. We also have a few o2 Bold devices, and they seem fine too.
  • I have had the Bold in the States since launch without a single problem. That's more than I can say for my Storm on Verizon, Android G1 on Tmobile, and Gen1 iPhone on ATT.
  • I have had a Bold since the UK launch and have never had Maps available or GPS.
As far as I am aware the Bold has already been pulled and is no longer available from Orange UK.
I am waiting until my 12 month contract runs out to switch to another network. My first time with Orange has not been what I had expected at all.

I've had my Bold for a couple of months here in Washington, DC. Reception has been spotty in DC and Chicago. Several dropped calls and failed dial attempts. Seems to switch back and forth between 3G and Edge quite a bit too.

I ran into a guy who had similar problems and heard that a patch might in the works.

I had a Bold, I send it back within the two weeks cooling of period. I used mine for voice and data, it would never hold a 3G signal whilst moving and the software was very buggy, rebooting every day. I would have persevered with it if it had not have been so big! I am now waiting for a Curve 8900, i'm expecting the same bugs but at least it'll be smaller!

Have had a Bold since its launch in DC; I only use it for data and have not had a single problem with it since purchase. Holds the 3G signal well, no re-boot problems, surprised at the good battery life (as good as advertised). It's too bad performance is so inconsistent and suggests that the actual device manufacturing is the real quality culprit here - would explain the variance that is popping up in reports.

I've had my bold on ATT in salt lake city since early november and my only quip with the device is the tiny amount of application 'memory' (is it flash or RAM?). There's not much room for apps (which themselves have to be tiny and tend not to come with much data), and the OS tends to suck it all up in a few days. It's fast, beautiful (the screen) and easy to use once you get used to the interface.

ATT's service, however, is another story. Calls can sound absolutely amazing (usually 3G) and I can cross the valley w/o any dropped calls, but then in some areas it'll switch between 3G, EDGE and GPRS frequently and calls can sound pretty crappy sometimes.

My Bold is a nightmare! The battery is useless. I have to charge it twice a day at least. Sometimes it drops from 100% charge to 65% in an hour, without being used. Has anyone else had battery problems?

We have 9 Bolds on Rogers in Toronto running perfectly withouth a glitch. Considering what it does, the screen and 3G, our batteries last about 2 days.
I'd say their problems are network related with Orange.

The problem here is the Blackberry Bold is a bit like a fancy PDA or Windows Vista in a way - it's a truly fantastic item/device HOWEVER ONLY if you know how to use and how to operate it...

The problem here is the Blackberry Bold is a bit like a fancy PDA or Windows Vista in a way - it's a truly fantastic item/device HOWEVER ONLY if you know how to use and how to operate it...

    1) Firstly battery problems are down to hit and miss versions of the device software
    2) The frequent switching between 2G and 3G is now resolved
    3) Yes my phone crashes/reboots itself once every 4-5 months however i do use it heavily through Bluetooth by streaming music to my sound system in the car.

Considering the circumstances my Bold has been exemplary

I have a blackberry bold, on the whole it is perfect, I experience some crashes now and again, but I have grown to accept this as other phones I have had (Nokia N95 for example) were succeptable to crashes time and again as well.

One issue I do have, which is becoming a major issue is when in a call. The phone will cut out all voice communication every 5-10 seconds or so, only for a second, but it is very irritating. If the call lasts longer than say 30 seconds or so, the signal will die and cancel the call, no matter what environment I am in.

It is a brilliant phone and I have every application going, but it is literally impossible to make calls.
I have friends who suffer the same problem...
My advice is for anyone wanting to get this phone, get a Nokia E71 instead.

I have the BlackBerry Bold on Orange UK and it works perfectly.
It's never crashed and GPS works perfectly.
I much prefer it to the Storm

I have had Bold from T-Mobile UK, I never got problem since I bought on Jan. All application are working properly and just only once can't send email or go to web and need to take out the battery and everything seem normal again.

On my third bold from orange great in every way but try and make a call! Drops on 3 or 2g some times after 10 seconds sometimes after 2 min but always at an important time
