BlackBerry GeneralResearch in Motion to buy Chalk Media

Now that the holiday season is over, it seems that RIM just wasn’t happy with the gifts Aunt Suzie gave (or the headaches the Certicom transaction is causing), so off they went and purchased another company, publicly traded, Chalk Media Corp. (CVE:CKM) in an all-cash transaction for $23,125,000 or $0.142 per share.
So, what does Chalk Media serve up you ask? According to Chalk’s website, their primary product is Mobile chalkboard, which brings targeted delivery of multimedia-rich and tracked content, or “pushcasts”, to wireless devices. The concept sounds pretty darn cool and it will be interesting to see how RIM plans to integrate it into their existing product portfolio.
Chalk mailed information to all of their investors containing documents related to a special meeting to discuss the finalization of the deal on January 27. The deal is expected to close in late January or early February 2009.
