Hotmail, MSN, Live email accounts need revalidating

A number of BlackBerry users with msn.com, hotmail.com and live.com accounts are finding this week that their BIS email accounts need revalidating on the BlackBerry. This is due to a recent Windows Live server update and users worldwide will need to again validate their accounts.
Because of the great number of users on those accounts being forced to validate their accounts, the server load for many of the carrier BIS sites has been great, and you’ll notice some lag or even no response. My suggestion is to just try again later, as I am reading reports from users that it is working… just slow or seemingly non-responsive.
Some users might have gotten notification from RIM or their carrier of this need to validate their accounts.
According to RIM’s KB13137 article, users should:
…validate your account from your BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following steps:
- Click the Email Settings icon either located in the Setup folder or on the BlackBerry smartphone Home screen.
- If necessary type your user name and password.
- Go to Email Accounts.
- Select edit the email account.
- Type your password.
- Click Save.
To validate your account from your computer, complete the following steps:
- Browse to your wireless service provider’s web site.
- Type your user name and password.
- If you do not have a user name and password, see KB18258.
- Go to Email Accounts.
- Edit the email account.
- Type your password.
- Click Save.
For a complete listing of the carrier BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS ) login sites, see the KB13137.
