Google Mobile update includes My Location and Voice search
If you’re using most any BlackBerry other than the Storm, Google Mobile has released an update for you.
According to the Google Mobile Blog, today’s update will search your ‘My Location’ according to your cell tower location (on GPS enabled devices, your GPS location will serve as the source). So if you want to know the closest cheeseburger eatery, you open Google Mobile and press and hold your green dial key and speak “CHEEZBURGER” into your BlackBerry device mic. Oh, man, I can taste that burger goodness already.
Bad spelling often interrupts the best effort on a search, but the new voice search transcends that to some extent, as explained on the blog:
“…on your vacation, you could have sworn your friend said to meet in “Lester Square”. Unfortunately, “Lester Square” is nowhere to be found on the Tube Map. A quick voice search on Google Mobile App (just press and hold the green button) for “Lester Square” reveals the true spelling. Leicester Square is actually only two stops away on the Picadilly Line. Problem solved!”
I already am a fan of Google Maps, and this update to Google Mobile really increases its worth. All for free! Google Mobile App is now available on all versions of Blackberry running on O/S 4.1+ and with Search by voice on O/S 4.2 and above (support for Blackberry Storm coming soon--buahhh).
